Retired Heads of Mission Association Fund for Supporting Graduate School of Public and International Affairs Student Internships Abroad

INTRODUCTION

This fund was generously created by the Retired Heads of Mission Association.

PURPOSE OF FUND

To offer financial assistance for travel expenses to students registered in the Master’s in Public and International Affairs program at the Graduate School of Public and International Affairs and who are participating in an internship abroad at a Canadian mission or an international governmental organization (e.g., United Nations or its agencies, World Bank, International Monetary Fund, World Trade Organisation, Organisation of American States) as part of their program.

Eligibility Criteria

The applicant must:

  1. be a Canadian citizen;
  2. be registered as a full-time student in the Master’s in Public and International Affairs program at the Graduate School of Public and International Affairs of the University of Ottawa;
  3. be participating in an internship abroad at a Canadian mission or an international            governmental organisation as part of their program; and
  4. submit a budget detailing their revenues and expected expenses for the internship in question.

 

Note: Applications for internships that have already taken place will not be accepted.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

  • Applications must be made to the Graduate School of Public and International Affairs and should include:
  1. proof of the applicant’s participation in an internship abroad as approved by the Graduate School of Public and International Affairs; and
  2. a budget outlining revenues and expected expenses for the internship in question.

SELECTION COMMITTEE

The selection committee will comprise:

  1. the Director of the Graduate School of Public and International Affairs or his/her delegate; and
  2. additional members designated by the Director or his/her delegate.

 

AWARDING PROCEDURE

The Graduate School of Public and International Affairs will:

  1. verify that the recipient is in good standing; and
    1. confirm the granting of this award in writing to the recipient and to the Office of the Vice-Provost, Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies.

  • The Office of the Vice-Provost, Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies will:
  1. arrange to have the amount credited to the recipient’s University account.

 

RECOGNITION

  1. Every year, each recipient will be asked to acknowledge the scholarship in a letter to the donor contact, the delivery of which will be coordinated by the Development Office.
  2. The donor will be invited to participate in the University’s Donor Recognition and Stewardship Program.

 

FINANCIAL ARRANGEMENTS

  1. All funds should be sent to the Development Office for credit to the appropriate account. All cheques must be made payable to the University of Ottawa.
  2. The financial year of the fund is from May 1 to April 30.

 

  • GENERAL
  • If future circumstances make it impossible or impractical for the University of Ottawa to continue using the fund for the stated purposes, the University will endeavor to contact the donor to explore other purposes for the fund. If the University is unable to locate the donor or if the donor is deceased, the University may use the fund in the way it deems most beneficial for the institution, but must adhere as closely as possible to the spirit of the fund and to the donor’s original intent.
